All Summer long the owner of the orchard played loud noises of birds of prey and owls, to discourage small birds from eating the fruit. It drove us nuts, and when I complained, the owner's response was basically "if you choose to live next to a factory, even if it's one that produces fruit, you must expect a lot of noise". On one occasion those were his actual words. It was one of the factors that led to our moving. I don't think it was very effective anyway. I still hear similar sounds from other orchards in the area in late Summer.
