To: James and all

From: John Sollows

Date: January 27/12

"A number of individuals do not like to see every bird seen within specific
areas, so I will give an abbreviated version of some of the birds that I saw
today."

I have a thought about this, James.

While the fine details in your counts may not matter to me, personally, it
does me no harm to breeze through them and the quantitative bits may, over
the years, have some real value as indicators in changing patterns of
abundance, be it seasonal or actual.

The fact that you get it out this way helps make sure the information
doesn't get lost, a decade or so down the road.

I greatly admire the dedicated detail you put into these reports. Please
keep it up.

More generally, to each his own. I think the level of detail in these
reports should be up to the reporter. Generally, I think the more detail,
the better, as per the discretion and time of the reporter.
