I don't know for sure, Rick, but...mixed??? :)

I agree with your point Rick. Although, very respectfully, few list members
post eBird data currently, so I can't see us being over-run by reports.
Additionally, much of our NS eBird data is sparse - based on the raw eBird
data itself. Only a very small proportion of NS bird reports make it to
eBird - except in the case of a few of those 40 who are, admirably (and
inspring to me), more devoted eBirders than most of us.

I agree, Rick, that most people on the list would likely prefer summaries.
However, I think John raises a good point too that there is value in seeing
detailed reports too (whether that means full lists or just detailed
notes), but also that there is value in the list being free from too many
stipulations on how or what to post - or what is of value. For example,
some of us might find value in the highlights (observations the reporter
deemed most interesting) and some might find value in being able to see
that Common Redpolls were seen for the first time this season in 12 towns
on the same day.

If it is more of a technical concern when long checklists are posted (for
example, long email in the inbox; or hard to extract the information of
interest) I'd argue there are likely technical solutions to those - one of
those being considering additional or other architecture for our Nova
Scotia nature community to report and discuss observations, beyond the
listserv.

On a related note, in a forum-style architecture, the 100+ list members who
are not interested in this topic - whatsoever - could choose to tune out
completely by not clicking to open this discussion thread :)

in the spirit of discussion,
cheers,
James.
