The Five Bridges Wilderness Heritage Trust (FBWHT) would like to =
encourage you to participate in two important public consultations that =
will have a significant impact for Nova Scotia=92s parks and protected =
natural areas.

Public Consultations on Western Crown Land=20

When: Monday, April 8, 5p.m. =96 8p.m.
Where: Black Point Fire Hall, 8579 St. Margaret's Bay Rd., Black Point

This open house meeting is part of a series of public consultations, =
which provide an opportunity to offer ideas on the best ways to use the =
1.5 million acres of Crown land in the western region. The consultations =
will help develop a sustainable plan for the land, which includes =
roughly 30,000 acres of lands bought from Bowater Mersey Ltd. that have =
been previously promised by government for protection that are now =
listed as =93conditional=94 pending the results of public consultations.

The Department of Natural Resources will set up at least one pilot =
Community Forest project in the western region.

Details about the planning process are available at: =
http://novascotia.ca/natr/land/western-land/.

You are also invited to submit written comments at: =
https://www.gov.ns.ca/natr/land/western-land/comments-western-land.asp.=20

Public Consultations on the Nova Scotia Parks and Protected Areas Plan

When: Tuesday, April 9, 2p.m. - 5p.m., and 6p.m. - 9p.m.

Where: Pier 21 Immigration Museum, 1055 Marginal Road, Halifax

The province has prepared a draft Parks and Protected Areas Plan to =
manage and protect Nova Scotia's natural spaces. The plan would =
preserve more than 13% of lands and create four new provincial parks.=20

These two open house meetings on April 9 are the final public =
consultations on the proposed Parks and Protected Areas Plan. Written =
comments can also be submitted before May 1, 2013.

For more information about the plan and how to submit comments, please =
visit http://www.novascotia.ca/parksandprotectedareas/.=20

One final reminder that the Council of Community Organizations (COCO) =
will meet on April 4, at 7p.m. at the Hubley Centre. Special guest Ken =
Donnelly will present the Community Monitoring Committee's position on =
HRM's proposed changes to the environmental and community protection =
elements of the Otter Lake Landfill. If you are interested in learning =
more about these issues, please follow the Community Monitoring =
Committee on Facebook at Facebook.com/OtterLakeCMC.

Yours truly,

Afton Doubleday,

Secretary, FBWHT
