Hi All=2C I videoed a female(?
Hi All=2C A female(?) Purple Martin arrived this afternoon and perched =
on a wire in front of my house. i've linked to a couple of not great photos=
. It's the third time I've had one here since July 2001=2C when a male was =
seen and photographed on the same wire. The second was a female in May 2008=
=3B photographed on nearby swallow boxes. This Purple Martin was accompanie=
d by a pair of Barn Swallows (now also uncommon in this region) and stayed=
around for about an hour. The weather at the time was heavy rain so the bi=
rds plumage was matted and the bird may prove to be a juvenile rather than =
an adult female. The weather and videoing through a window made the images =
a bit fuzzy. I've added a couple of pics of the male Indigo Bunting I r=
eported a few days ago. I last saw it yesterday but the bird is quite skitt=
ish so it is probably still in the area. The other photos are of a Northern=
Harrier that landed near my front door on May 9th. It's the first time I'v=
e ever seen this hawk up close although I occasionally see one flying over =
