Hi James,

Great news! Thank you very much for tracking down another active chimney an=
d for sharing your methods with us. To my knowledge, there aren't any recor=
ds of Chimney Swifts using the KCA school in the past. However, I have to =
add that we are learning about more and more historic records of Chimney Sw=
ift roosts (including those that are now abandoned by swifts, or have been =
torn down or capped) every year, so it could be possible. To that end, we a=
re always interested in historic records of Chimney Swift roost and nest si=
tes as part of our ongoing efforts to investigate the historical range of t=
his species in NS as well as the length of time that some of these sites ha=
ve been occupied by swifts, so we welcome all such observations.

Looking forward to additional observations at this chimney from you and oth=
ers.

Thanks again,

Ally

Subject: Google StreetView and Chimney Swift Roost, Kentville

hi folks,

This afternoon, while kids resting, I did a quick Google StreetView tour of=
Kentville and found 4 decent, likely abandoned chimneys/buildings not too =
far from Miner's Marsh (where Chimney Swifts were spotted recently). I trie=
d the first one tonight - the old, abandoned KCA School. I showed up early =
because of the impending rain and at about 8:00 pm stepped out of the car t=
o 2 Chimney Swifts chittering overhead...I thought it might just be coincid=
ence, but at 8:23 pm they dropped into the chimney (sunset was 8:52)! Perha=
ps there are more there and I will check again on a nicer evening. Or, othe=
r locals, please drop by sometime and check!

Are there any records of them having used this chimney in the past?

cheers,
James.
