I cannot resist commenting on the common name given, which is correct
in one sense but, in my own mind, politically incorrect in another.
I personally draw the line on use of the word "false" in common names
that suggest that the "real ones" grow in human gardens rather than
in wild gardens. Thus my "wild lily-of-the-valley" and my wild
Solomon's seal are only the wild relatives of the similarly named
plants in our domestic gardens.

I have my own rules, which are sensible to me if not to botanists,
for botanical and other nomenclature. What's in a name? Sometimes a
lot.

Cheers! from non-botanist Jim in Wolfville.

P.S. I first learned this particular plant of coastal headlands as
an abundant woodland plant in central Alberta in the 1960s.

P.P.S. One of the reasons why I and many naturalists favour
"Newcombe's Wildflower Guide" for "nuking" plants with flowers is
that his field-tested old book includes a lot of garden escapes, and
thus sometimes both "false" and "real" plants!
