Thanks for the insight=2C Nancy. When we lived in Manitoba one would often =
see many different species of butterflies massing on the feces of wolves & =
coyotes. I felt that when given the choice they would select such for their=
mineral intake rather than bare ground (which was the case with my swallow=
tails). I have rarely seen them on carrion.

I did not know about the males being more likely to do so.
Never heard of your entomology prof. Is she still with us?

f your nice photos reminded me of something from my Entomology course at Da=
l long ago (taught by Edith Angelopoulos- she did some insect segments on C=
BC as well).
Tiger Swallowtails are believed to mass or puddle on the ground to take in =
minerals etc from the soil. They will do the same on dung or carrion too. A=
ccording to Wikipedia males do this more often than females.
