Hi Dave and Nancy
I did indeed err in the common name for this orchid. It is P. obtusata =
which in the Flora of NS by Zinck is Blunt-leaved Rein Orchid and not =
Round. leaved.=20
I our original plan for the day, John was going to take us first to a =
sample of Round-leaved Orchid he has seen in past years in Pictou Co. =
and I think somehow the round stuck with me when I went to write up my =
little journal of the day's trip. The Round-leaved Orchid will be =
another day although I have seen it a few times previous to this. Sorry =
for the confusion. I do not know why it is called a Rein Orchid. Thanks =
for pointing out this.=20

Hi Ken, July 13
I somehow missed this earlier. But I now notice that you refer to =
P. obtusata as the Round-leaf Rein Orchid. But the one leaf of P. =
obtusata is not at all round.=20
So I wonder 1) if some book has this strange common name for =
obtusata or 2) did you mean P. orbiculata which does have a round leaf =
and is commonly called Round-leaf...

Hi Ken and All
I was finally getting around to reading this post from Thurs on =
NatureNS and flipping through a field guide to see what some of the =
flowers mentioned looked like.
I did not find Round-leaf Rein Orchid (Platanthera obtusata) but =
came across lots of Rein Orchids (P. spp and some Piperia).
Do you have any idea why they are called "Rein" orchids?

Round-leaf Rein Orchid (Platanthera obtusata) that last year in this =
forum, Rick Ballard had mentioned was in bloom just off the trails near =
the lighthouse. Thanks for the directions Rick.=20
