Hello All=2C
=20
Although I thought that I had seen a note reminding everyone that this week=
end (Aug. 9 - 11) was the main one for the internationally coordinated 'Swi=
fts Night Out' (www.chimneyswifts.org)=2C I could not find it when I went t=
o send this report=2C and I see that for some reason Maritime Swiftwatch he=
ld an event with that title on July 27 at Wolfville.
=20
Anyway=2C my Swifts Night Out count for the Middleton Regional High chimney=
on August 10 was of 365 entering the chimney between 2052 and 2110 (plus a=
nother 5-6 that went by about 2108 and were never seen to enter although we=
remained until 2125). All but 6 of the 365 went in between 2100 and 2103=
=2C so there was necessarily some estimating for that 3-minute period. Fra=
nces Lourie was the only other observer there at the time=2C and=2C countin=
g independently from another angle and another car=2C she had 350-355=2C so=
the numbers seem quite reliable. I began observing at 2020=2C and the fir=
st feeding swifts appeared about 2025=2C with circling flocks building up u=
ntil 2100. The first one entered at 2052=2C but the next was not until 210=
0. Sky was clear=2C wind light=2C temperature about 21=BAC.
=20
I also had done a count here on 27 July=2C getting 280 swifts=2C also=2C su=
rprisingly=2C nearly all entering between 2100 and 2102.
With today being Robie Tufts' birthday=2C I trust that someone will be chec=
king his site this evening. I may even celebrate by going out to some of h=
is favorite Grand Pr=E9 or Evangeline Beach sites before the tide gets too =
far out!
