THANKS, WAYNE! for remembering the Swift Night Out weekend of Aug. =20
9,10,11, this year, and another such weekend will be in Sept. (check =20
chimneyswifts.org Web site for dates). One little question re your =20
report -- you mention "feeding swifts", which I would just call "pre-=20
roosting swifts", in my long experience of watching large numbers of =20
swifts circling many gawkers in the 1970s to 1990s for 20 minutes at =20
a time before the descents into the chimneys, hardly anyone was hit =20
by whitewash from the swifts -- thus my guess that the actual =20
foraging and feeding in most days ends before those pre-roosting =20
activities. No doubt this depends upon what foraging conditions were =20=

in any one day, but usually the swifts have had several hours of =20
intermittent feedings before heading toward the roosting sites.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
