The metallic wings that showed up in this picture

of the little day flying Conifer Swift Moth (Korscheltellus gracilis),
IDed by Jim Edsall, made me look into how the color is produced.

I came across this article referring to Morpho Butterflies that
explains how the scale structure of Lepidoptera (Butterflies and
Moths) produces the metallic glint and is being copied for a variety
of uses:
