Both these species, bird and orchid, tend to arrive in this area about =
the same time during the third week of August. The Lady's Tresses =
Orchids are easy to confuse and I have confused them several times so I =
hope I'm getting it right.=20

The Ruddy Turnstones are at Duncan Reef feeding on flies and maggots =
present on the rotting kelp heaps. I arrive here, scatter the birds, and =
sit down in a comfortable location and await their return which only =
takes minutes. The peeps were so close to me, less than 6 feet, that I =
couldn't focus my camera properly whereas the turnstones came within 10 =
feet, some squabbling over the best feeding grounds. This is two step =
foraging for the birds, that is there is something to eat at every =
second step.=20

Details are in my journal: http://www.hanstoom.com/Journal/Page53.html
