This Week's Sky at a Glance

Some night sky sights for November 1 =96 9

A partial eclipse of the Sun will be in progress as the Sun rises on =
Sunday morning, November 3. The Moon will be rising in front of it, =
blocking nearly 40% of the light. It will take approximately 70 minutes =
until the eclipse ends at 8:15 a.m. Care must be taken looking at the =
eclipse directly. It is safe to view it through #14 welder=92s glass.=20

Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Clocks fall back an =
hour. When planning for the sunrise eclipse, be sure that your expected =
sunrise time and your clocks are synchronized!=20

On Sunday, November 3, the Moon will go into its New Phase meaning we =
will not see it at all during the night. Expect higher high tides and =
lower low tides=20

Look high in the northeast after dark for Cassiopeia standing on end.

On Sunday, November 10, the Moon will go into its First-quarter Phase =
meaning it will rise at noon and set at midnight.=20

On Saturday, November 2 the sun rose at 8:01 a.m. and will set at 6:05 =
p.m. giving 10 hours 3 minutes of daylight hours. On Saturday, November =
9, the sun will rise at 7:11 a.m. and set at 4:55 p.m. (Ouch!) to give 9 =
hours 44 minutes of daylight hours (These values are for Moncton, New =
Brunswick).=20

This Week's Planet Roundup=20

Mercury and Saturn are hidden in the glare of the Sun.=20

Venus (magnitude =964.5) shines brightly in the southwest during dusk. =
It sets nearly an hour after dark now.=20

Mars (magnitude 1.5) rises around 2 a.m.=20

Jupiter (magnitude =962.4) rises in the east-northeast around 10 p.m. =
and blazes high in the south before dawn.=20
