Sorry about the delay in this report but Bell-Aliant has been letting us =
down....

Along with over 20 other wildfowl enthusiasts, I participated in the =
NCC/BSC jointly-sponsored Wild For Waterfowl count last Sunday. The =
focus of this activity is to census a number of Migratory Bird =
Sanctuaries and other South Shore locations, the target species being =
Canada Goose, American Black Duck and Harlequin Duck. Of course, all =
birders will focus on all birds seen!!

Four of us hiked in to Keji Seaside NP, did a sea watch at several =
locations as we walked the shoreline and spent a bit of time across the =
dune scoping the lagoon.

Highlights included a dispersed flock of 29 Harlequins (down from 46 in =
2012 and 62 in 2011), 4 Black Scoters (all females), about a dozen =
Common Eider and a single Horned Grebe. A dozen Northern Gannets were =
actively feeding well off-shore. =20

On the lagoon we noted a couple of dozen Bufflehead, around 30-35 Black =
Ducks, 3 Green-winged Teal and a single Common Goldeneye. Waterfowl =
numbers both on the ocean and the lagoon were down from previous years =
and this was noted by other groups as well at the post-count =
get-together at the Port Joli Hostel.
One special sighting was a flock of about 30 Snow Buntings on the beach.
