The Halifax/Dartmouth Christmas Bird Count went ahead yesterday, =
December 21st after some nail-biting and two date changes. With only =
very preliminary results in and obvious gaps that should be filled we =
have 91 species for the day. Anyone out yesterday will know what =
conditions met us but it=92s over and done for another year despite the =
difficulties. Thank you to everyone!

Some of the highlights include no fewer than 7 Snowy Owls and all =
between Hartlen Point and Rainbow Haven, a Short-eared Owl at Hartlen =
Point, Saw-whet Owls at Salt Marsh Trail, a Cooper=92s Hawk in Dartmouth =
(details will follow), Sanderling and Dunlin in the Lawrencetown, =
Conrad=92s area and a few Dovekie at Hartlen. Yellow-breasted Chat, =
Pine Warbler, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped were the only warbler =
species still left after this stretch of weather. There was a =
Lincoln=92s Sparrow, two White-Crowned Sparrows, (one in Halifax and one =
still lingering at MacCormack=92s Beach), and a House Finch in Halifax.

As for winter finches, a single Common Redpoll was at a feeder in =
Dartmouth!
