Jim,

Did Sherman rule out the possibility that his "chipping sparrow already =
in its breeding plumage" could in fact be an American Tree Sparrow?

DEC. 30, 2013 =3D Once again my CHIPMUNK surprised me by being =
active around the feeders -- but one of my Norway rats chased it away =
temporarily -- I trapped a young rat, but still have at least 3 rats in =
tunnels below the feeders (presumably a mother rat with a litter).

Sherman Bleakney in Wolfville reports he has been getting purple =
finches at his feeders for several days, and 8 of them yesterday. Back =
on Dec. 27 & 28, he also had what looked like a chipping sparrow already =
in its breeding plumage -- can anyone comment on the =
possibility/likelihood of this? In mid-Dec. sherman had what looked =
like a winter-plumage chippy, but that sparrow disappeared.

    Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
