Hi John & All, Jan 12, 2014
For the first time ever, moved here in 1967, I saw one in the yard =
this year. I did not record the event; too busy moving snow & wood.
Except for a 1/2 cord buffer in the porch, I store most of our 16" =
wood outdoors in tiers protected somewhat by 22" wide polyethylene under =
22" wide indoor-outdoor carpeting held down with bricks and bring some =
wood in nearly every day. Once a tier is lowered to ground at one end, I =
lean the wheelbarrow onto the slope. =20
In one of the first significant snow events of 2014, a snug drift of =
fine snow built up around the lower end and side rims of the =
wheelbarrow. When I tipped the wheelbarrow out I saw a startled ruffed =
grouse for a split-second, no doubt muttering somethng like darn, before =
it took off in a cloud of powder snow. =20
