Hi Don and all:
=20
Thank you Don for the mourning dove suggestion. It definitely was not a mo=
urning dove. The body and shape were not correct. the mallards that took o=
ff at the time could have spooked the starlings and like I said the starlin=
gs and the mallards going up around the same time that I saw the strange bi=
rd could have been co-incidence. I've been giving a lot of thought to what=
I saw. I cannot say for sure but I'm thinking quite possibly a green hero=
n. I saw one in the past with a similar shape like I described and at the =
time it took me a few minutes to clue in that this was what I was seeing. =
At the time I knew the bird was in the area and it flew up out of the ditch=
and flew across the road and then away in the same way that the bird that =
I saw did. I'm not 100 percent sure about this ID though for the current b=
ird=2C so it is only probable and I have to leave it at that. I checked th=
e area over well today where I saw the bird and did not see any sign of it.
