=A0Hi All=0AThis afternoon I went down to Graves Island to see what=0Awas t=
here for sea birds. I have a gimpy leg so couldn't walk=0Aas far as I usual=
ly do but wasn't disappointed. All counts are approximate=0Awhy with birds =
diving, flying and the rain mixed with snow an exact count=0Ais impossible.=
=0AThirty=A0puddle ducks flew in to=A0bridge. 2 pairs of mallards and the r=
est =0ABlack Ducks. The Black Ducks were nicely paired off and as they flew=
in together=0Ait was easy to see the pairs. One lone duck kept to itself a=
ll the time.=0AIt might have been a mixed breed - no definitive info. Mixed=
Black X Mallards=0Adon't tend to mate up as soon - if at all.=0ALoons were=
feeding in the bay. I think 7 in all. Two of them caught a small=0Acrab ea=
ch as I watched. They soon gobbled it down. Must have a tough throat.=0AI c=
ouldn't tell which kind of crab. When they had luck, they kept diving in th=
e same=0Aspot but I didn't see any more catches. Once one Loon came up besi=
de a Guillemot.=0AThe Guillemot soon took off and flew a short distance bef=
ore pitching back down.=0ASea Pigeons we used to call them. Only say the on=
e - its not a great spot for them.=0AThere was 12 - 16 grebes - all Horned =
except 2 Red Necked. They are much more =0Acommon in that part of the bay t=
han in the Indian Point side. I am not sure why.=0AThey too were diving but=
 I didn't see any successful ones. A couple of times=0Awhen one=A0came up a=
Herring Gull flew to them but they quickly dove and=A0the Gull=0Akept on g=
oing.=0AThere was a good bunch of sea ducks also but my fingers are=0Agetti=
ng sore so they=A0 need wait for another time!=0AEnjoy the winter=0APaul =
