Re: Shortage of Gray Jays?

I think in industrial Cape Breton=2C particularly the Sydneys=2C New Waterf=
ord=2C Glace Bay (which is where I live)=2C you MIGHT think they have decli=
ned=2C but if you go out to 'the country'=2C you'll still find the Gray Jay=
s there...places like Homeville=2C South Head=2C etc. I can't speak on the=
ir numbers though. They may be gone down too. BevGlace Bay

Always had 4or5 + around my place. Also see a lot while driving. So no s=
hortage around here. Then again I pretty much live in the woods..=0A=

It=92s interesting how gray jays still seem to be common up Cape Breto=
n way. I have been back home in Yarmouth in the winters now for over ten y=
ears=2C and they became unusual some time before that. Do you Cape Bretone=
rs find they are declining?=0A=

I've had a hairy woodpecker here since early Dec. It's here everyday.=
Lots of American goldfinch=2C juncos=2C chickadees=2C blue jays and gray j=
ays. Oh=2C and a ruffed grouse in one of my white birch=2C most mornings.=

Last winter I was going through bird pies at least one every=
day. Woodpeckers=2C hairy=2C downy =2C and pileated were very frequent and=
the sunflower seed was getting a lot of attention. . By contrast currently=
I am rarely seeing anything. Maybe that ice storm we had is to blame?=0A=
