Hello All=2C
Despite an unfavorable weather forecast=2C Sunday=2C Jan 11=2C about 40=
intrepid birders
gathered at McCormacks Beach in Eastern Passage at 09:00=2C for "Sewer Stro=
ll 1" sponsored by
Halifax Field Naturalists and The Nova Scotia Bird Society.
After scanning this area we proceeded south along the harbour to Hartle=
n Pt.=2Cstopping
at a look-off along the way. From there=2C we retraced our route stopping =
at the Shearwater
sewage outfall before checking out Dartmouth Cove and Sullivans Pond. It ha=
d started to=20
drizzle by this point. We tried one more stop at Tufts Cove and ended the t=
rip here at about 13:00
as the weather had deteriorated causing fogged views=2C glasses=2C scopes a=
nd binos.
I feel fortunate to have accomplished this much of the trip that would h=
ave also covered Bedford
and Halifax warerfronts=2C Pt. Pleasant Park and Herring Cove if the weathe=
r had allowed. Such are
the hazards of winter birding in N.S.
We saw some great birds and from the verbal and e-mail comments I have r=
eceived=2C the eager
participants were well satisfied with the results. Some of the highlight bi=
rds we saw.......
McCormacks Beach - Bald Eagle (imm)=2C Glaucous=2C Iceland Gulls=2C Bla=
ck Guillemot=2C White-Crowned
sparrow.
Look-off - Wight-winged and black Scoters.
Hartlen Pt - Bald Eagle (adult)=2C Snowy Owl=2C Rought-legged Hawk=2C H=
orned Lark=2C Barrows goldeneye.
Shearwater - Tufted Duck.
Sillivans Pond - Eurasian Widgeon=2C Glaucous=2C Black-headed=2C Lesser=
Blacked (2 Imm) Gulls=2C Cardinal.
Other birds seen - American Widgeon=2C Black Duck=2C Mallard=2C Greater and=
Lesser Scaup=2C Common
Eider=2C Long-tailed Duck=2C Bufflehead=2C Common Goldeneye=2C Red-brested =
Merganser=2C Ring-necked=20
pheasant=2C Ring-billed=2C Herring Gulls=2C Blue Jay=2C Crow=2C Raven=2CRob=
in=2C Starling=2C Song Sparrow.
These are the birds that I saw myself or heard others say that they saw=
. If anyone on the stroll saw
any other birds not included above=2C please let me know so that I and add=
to the official list
that I will send to N.S.B.S & H.F.N.=20

dge with those less
knowledgeable. Several new birders told me how much they appreciated this.
