I finally got to add house sparrows to my winter list yesterday. I heard s=
ome at Sullivan's Pond earlier=2C but did not see them so did not record th=
em. They have been very hard to find this winter. The place that I finall=
y did see them was at Second Peninsula. There have only been ten birds pre=
sent this winter and all appeared to be males. They were busy all fighting=
amongst themselves. According to Glenn Rhodenizer and previous stats that=
I have usually there are 30-40 birds there all winter. Glenn told me that=
for three or four years straight the birds present were showing one eye sw=
elled shut and they would have issues flying and would drop to the ground d=
ead. This sounds like conjunctivitis to me. This problem is not apparent =
there this year though=2C but the population is far diminished. =20

I was also told about an American kestrel that had been present on the farm=
 over the past week. =20
