While my brother was fishing on Big Mushamush Lake, inland Lun Co, Tuesday (20 May) he saw a male and female Surf Scoter there.

This seems unusual. Surf Scoters do breed on inland lakes but much farther North, I think? My copy of All the Birds of Nova Scotia by McLaren is not with me at the moment so I do not know their status in NS.
