There was a noticeable amount of maintenance done on the woodland trails at
APMBS today and I saw a notice posted that they are going to close the
trails between July 14 and Aug 31 for further maintenance. I don't know why
they have to close the entire system but that is what the notice says. I
don't know if they are going to be working on the dykes too but I hope they
don't make them too accessible myself. It's kind of wild there right now and
few dog walkers traverse the dykes though they are still very much navigable
if you don't mind brushing through a few areas of high grass. Most of the
dykes are quite open once you get passed the grown-in areas.

I didn't confirm anything new or uncommon at APMBS today but I had a great
day of hiking and birding, though I missed a few birds that I was unable to
identity including a very, brief look of a bird standing in reeds with a
bittern stance but was smaller than an American Bittern and was very dark.
But my glimpse was so short I'm not certain of those details. I was unable
to confirm but I may have saw 4 Black Tern flying over one of the
impoundments there also. The amount of birds still singing there was
amazing.

I thought my primary observing site was going to be the Amherst Marsh today
but it has grown in so much that most of the dykes are not navigable even by
a bushwhacker like me. I did walk nearly the entire length of the western
dyke this morning but the grass was high and I was soaked from dew within
minutes. I did see 3 Black Tern and I would have tried to see more and get
better pictures but at that point I had thought I took the wrong dyke and I
assumed I would get closer to them by going up another one. But the rest
were so grown in that I didn't attempt any more. I would like to find out if
anyone there would run someone around in one of the several boats moored
there. Does anyone offer that service does anyone know?
