On August 11=2C I saw my first Monarch (Danaus plexippus) of the year along=
that horrendously rough road to The Guzzle at East Grand Pr=E9. At the dy=
kes there=2C there were at least 3 Black Swallowtails (Papilio polyxenes)=
=2C as well as the usual cabbages=2C sulphurs=2C and browns (perhaps satyrs=
or wood nymphs - I did not get a good look). All these except the monarch=
had also been there the last time I visited=2C on August 5.
Although there seems to be plenty of milkweed (Asclepias syriaca=2C I think=
) at the entrance to Miner's Marsh=2C including some in bloom on Aug 11. I =
did not see any monarchs in that area.

We saw a Monarch flying over the Brier Island ferry yesterday. Presumably a=
n early migrant. There were also many Fritillaries feeding on Knapweed arou=
nd our cabin.=20

We still have four or five flying around the field. Two were observed coupl=

released four adults from our 'hatchery' prior to today.
Two days ago on a bike ride around Lakeville in the Valley=2C I encountered=
two small 'Monarchs' by the side of the road but upon closer examination w=
ith binoculars they were Viceroys.
Several days ago we had an American Lady on flowers at our place. We contin=
ue to have lots of Wood Nymphs.
