A question to people knowledgeable about plants:

A friend has a patch of Houttuynia cordata in her garden,
but does know where it might originate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houttuynia_cordata
It grows vigorously and seems difficult to eradicate.

(1) Was this/is this a plant commonly planted in gardens?
(2) The above wikipedia article mentions culinary use.
Is there somebody on this list who has tried it?
(3) Given the vigorous growth, is there concern about the
plant spreading into the wild and becoming a nuisance?

Appreciate any insight,
Burkhard
