Hi All
Yesterday after supper I went to the river for a little fishing.
A beautiful evening it was.
Just across from where I parked the car was a bed of
Turlehead ( Chelone glabra ) in full flower. The bed was on the sides of the ditch of the road and was maybe 50 m long. The plants were so plentiful they were crowding each other out. I never say a bed of turtlehead like that before.
The bottom of the ditch was a stand of cattails. and after the cattails the turtleheads took over. The spot was in an area where outcrops of the Windsor soil group are known to occur. Maybe the ph was favorable to Chelone. The ditch has a pool of water in the spring and is a great spot for tree frogs.
Enjoy the day
Paul
