You can release animals from these "glue-boards" with the use of a little mineral oil... We have done that successfully for several differnt groups of animals. However you then have to get the oil out of the feathers...

It needs its tail feathers to steer properly and should be kept until they are in. Can take a few weeks and might I suggest they do something about the "glue substance" to prevent this from happening again. Most people aren't equipped to either house or feed songbirds long term and if she can get it to us or another rehabilitator to let this happen with proper housing and nutrition, the bird will likely be better off, but should return to its normal territory for release.

Hello all,

I have a reader who needs advice. Please respond to me and I will pass the advice on to her.

Here is her message: "The goldfinch got itself stuck to glue substance on our mosquito vac outside, managed to get him off gently, but alas – his tail feathers happened to get stuck on it. He is amazing, have had him or her for about a week now and is doing fine... but i was wondering if by any chance you would know how long it takes for these tail feathers to grow back or if he can just use his wings to get airborne enough to return to a flock of his own, am afraid something will happen to him being in solitary confinement... any info you can give me i would so appreciate..."
