Hi All,
Heavy rains and strong winds on 5 out of 7 nights, combined with the
lateness of the season, resulted in only a few night flight calls: 26. The
most common calls were those of the Hermit Thrush and American Woodcock (5
each). There were nonetheless a good variety of "interesting" calls. The
first American Tree Sparrow was recorded on October 21st at 7:10 am. A call
that was an very good fit with Grasshopper Sparrow, both in sound and
spectrogram, was recorded on October 20th at 11:43 pm. A late Northern
Parula was recorded on the same night (9:34 pm). As noted last week, the
call of this warbler is similar to Pine Warbler and Yellow-throated Warbler
but this call best fit the profile for Northern Parula. Finally an Indigo
Bunting was recorded at 10:40 pm on October 23rd. A complete list follows.
