For historical interest, there is the paper *The indigenous ferns of Nova
Scotia <http://dalspace.library.dal.ca/handle/10222/11303>*, Ball, E. H.,
1876 - published in the Journal of the Nova Scotian Institute of Natural
Science. Available as a PDF from Dalhousie University. It gives locations
where many rarer ferns were found. It is only 12 pages and prints fine on
regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Also, The Fern Lover's Companion, A Guide for the Northeastern States and
Canada <http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11365> , Tilton, George Henry, 1845
<http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/3955> -available from Project
Gutenberg as an ePub or Kindle book.
