This is slightly off topic. While we have observed the spread of the =
Eastern Coyote throughout eastern North America, and are debating the =
possible return of the Eastern Cougar, it may be useful to note that =
Europe is experiencing the spread of the Common Jackal (a.k.a. Golden =
Jackal, Canis aureus), originally present only in the Balkans, the =
Middle East, and India. There have been hundreds of roadkills and =
shootings of jackals in Hungary in recent years, and four recent ones in =
the Czech Republic. It looks like this small coyote-like canine is =
starting to occupy a niche vacated by the local extermination of the =
wolf.

Thanks for chasing it down. A healthy skepticism (aka a well tuned BS =
Detector) is certainly required dealing with all things interweb.=20

And yet... I know a few very credible witnesses, woods-wise and not =
given to hyperbole, who have convinced me of their eyewitness accounts. =
Certainly there are enough deer to go around. And another top shelf =
carnivore (the Eastern Coyote) has certainly been successful moving into =
the area...
