I was surprised to see a Wooly Bear Caterpillar (Pyrrharctia isabella) crawling across the front steps when I arrived at my parents' home in Bridgewater, Lun Co, early this morning. The outside temp was -2C at that time.

The American Coots (I counted 12) were still in Kingsburg Pond, Lun Co, as of yesterday afternoon. They are not shy and very easy to observe, even w/o binoculars.
