Those girls were not attacked by the bear. In fact it was a great =
example of how unlikely a black bear attack is because even in 20 =
minutes screaming and panic the bear did not display any aggressive =
behavior. Understandably the girls sustained some injuries from their =
panic. I=E2=80=99ve never heard of it ever in NS but an Alberta woman =
did get killed by a black bear last year so it not =
impossible=E2=80=94just less likely than being accidently shot by a =
hunter.

David, you making outlandish claims and exaggerations is not out =
ordinary but to suggest Richard claims he only wants one form of =
recreation is a new low for you.

Hi Darrell & All, Feb 16, 2015

Darrell, I agree with you on all counts except one. I would have no =
quarrel with Sunday hunting.

    I especially appreciated your--

"It would be nice to see some rational thinkers in the naturalist =
community, it would go a long way."

--because a great many contributed irrational objections and =
consequently demonstrated the merit of your comment. I would like to go =
on and on but after 9+ hours of moving snow etc. there are chores inside =
to deal with. But there is time for a few Parthian Shots.

There is currently a wolf cull about to start in BC on the false =
premise that killing one Wolf will result in many more Caribou. But Dave =
C., you are falling back on the same kind of false biology when you =
object to hunters killing deer that you otherwise might see. Our deer =
populations are limited largely by feed, winter weather and in =
exceptional circumstances illegal hunting using lights. And the idea =
that deer hunters are obliged to leave Sundays to hikers. it being only =
about 4 out of 28 days set aside does not wash either. The deer hunting =
season is a very small fraction of the year and those who imagine that =
no hunting takes place on Sundays are living in a dream world.=20

And Richard, your photographs are beautiful, and more power to you, =
but it would be a dull world if there were only one acceptable form of =
recreation.=20

And some hunter orange is likely a sensible precaution during the =
hunting season and if there is any chance of leaving the woods after =
dark it is wise to have a light and use it when getting near out. Nearly =
all hunting accidents occur when visibility is poor. And Bears do =
sometimes attack humans; e.g. the instance of two girls in Kings County =
a year or so ago.=20

And even if you wear a dark brown coat with a white collar, have no =
light and reach your vehicle after dark your risk of injury increases at =
least 100-fold the minute you start driving.

YT, Dave Webster, Kentville-- With many fond memories of hunting (and =
often not finding)

I am a hunter but still against it, for the reason of giving the animals =
one day free from human pressure, not for non existing hikers in the =
country side.

For perspective, many hunters only get Saturday to hunt, to pay the =
money and only get 4 days in the woods is not worth it. Too many deer =
and the herd needs to be culled.

Another reason is the natives get to hunt 7 days a week/365 and it is =
not fair that they get free rein while others do not. This bias and =
discriminatory practice has to stop. All people should be treated =
equally and fairly as not to cause tensions. The government has to stop =
the free for all harvesting by natives. All animals have a harvest =
season and limits and all people should abide by them.=20

It would be nice to see some rational thinkers in the naturalist =
community, it would go a long way.

Simply look at the shooting accidents, they are near zero, to be afraid =
to go in the woods in hunting season is down right ridiculous.
