There have been a few Robins around Conrose Field in south end Halifax, on and off for weeks, so when I saw one again today I wasn't excited. But this evening, as I was going down my street, I heard the distinct rusty door-hinge cry of a Common Grackle. I backtracked and got a good look at a single bird, high up in one of the neighbourhood ash trees. This is more than a week later than my usual "first sighting of the year" for this early migrant.

In Bedford, near my parents' house, I was surprised and delighted to see a Chipmunk, poking its head out of a tunnel at the peak of a 6 foot high snowbank along the side of the road. I think I would have hibernated a bit longer ...

Now, if we could just find some Coltsfoot in bloom ... How about it, Carl?

Cheers,

Patricia L. Chalmers
