Actually, it keeps some of us sharp. I have to use these for nocturnal =
owl surveys and forest songbird point counts. Because I am relatively =
new to forest songbird monitoring, it takes some practice each year to =
remember some of the less obvious/uncommon acronyms (much less =
remembering all the songs and calls). Like it or not, many of us have =
to use them if we want to participate. Define the bird code on first =
usage perhaps? =20

Perhaps tossing those acronyms at us at times causes a little extra =
brain work -will stave off dementia!

context made it a curious comment on the part of the original poster).
