Traveling the 103 I typically see more deer during and immediately after
winters when there has been a lot of snow. They congregate along the highway
on South facing slopes where they can find bare ground and browse. Virtually
all of them are on the North side of the highway though they must wander
from time to time as I occasionally see the results. There was another this
morning that had been struck near exit 6 as well as 8 more that were feeding
in a 3 km stretch.

I was talking to someone who had been travelling on the highway near Pictou
this weekend. He mentioned seeing a lot of dead deer. He felt they must be
feeding so near the road as it is one of the few places there is open ground
to browse. Did anyone else notice this?

HIs usual excursions keep him in the southern half of the province, so the
difference in the amount of deer roadkill in N NS must have stood out to
him.
