This weekend I paddled the Musquodoboit from Elmsvale to Bridge Pool
(between Meaghers Grant and Musq. Harbour). Lots of interesting birds along
the river, and while I didn't do a great job of keeping a list as I went, I
had 50+ species on the trip. Highlights were lots of Common Nighthawk
(about 15 on the first day), a pair of Broad-winged Hawks calling and
flying over the river, singing Northern Waterthrush, lots of Pewees and
Veery, and Bobolink (my brothers spotted).

We also saw 3 Wood turtles on sandy banks along the river. In one spot
there were 2 wood turtles and about 7 snappers. The snappers all took off
when we arrived, but the wood turtles stayed put. There were some broken
turtle egg shells around. Not sure what all that was about.
