  <div>
   Hi All
  </div>
  <div>
   Yesterday before the rain a friend and I went for a drive.
  </div>
  <div>
   As we approached the Shannon River we saw a trail going into the woods.
  </div>
  <div>
   It would have been a road in days gone by. We walked the trail and came upon
  </div>
  <div>
   the site of a former saw mill. All remains of the mill and the buildings were gone
  </div>
  <div>
   but the dam was still there - at least the stone part.
  </div>
  <div>
   The dam was an impressive structure, about 2 meters in height with a rock face
  </div>
  <div>
   and backfilled with local fill. Building that required a lot of hard work with a team
  </div>
  <div>
   of oxen and a stone boat. Also a lot of knowhow too.
  </div>
  <div>
   The wooden part was gone but the remains still back up the water perhaps 0.5 meters.
  </div>
  <div>
   It must have flooded a large part of the lowland behind it and made some changes to
  </div>
  <div>
   the local environment.
  </div>
  <div>
   At the site of the buildings there was an array of plants not native to the area. Most striking
  </div>
  <div>
   was a yellow Day Lilly - a very lovely clear yellow. Smaller than todays models but no less
  </div>
  <div>
   beautiful and had survived all those years without any care. A good plant. The are will be explored
  </div>
  <div>
   re plants in more detail latter.
  </div>
  <div>
   Ladys Slippers were quite common in the area scattered through the woods that had grown to
  </div>
  <div>
   a good size. Yesterday with the dark overcast gave them a glow not often seen.
  </div>
  <div>
   A fine spot!
  </div>
  <div>
   Enjoy the summer
  </div>
  <div>
   Paul
