The last thing I found to be unbelievable was the outcome of the May 2, 2011

I don't like adding a "ditto" and sending to the entire list, but I agree
hugely with Dave Webster's words below, and kudos also to the sleuthing by
Paul Schneidereit and the Globe & Mail editorial etc. Every time we hear
something new about this proposed project, it gets absolutely worse and
worse and unbelievable that such antics could take place in our "democratic"
homeland!

And Nick, I don't think installation of a Mother Canada statue at some
location (and I assume you mean some location not in the park) should be
decided entirely by those who live within a 10 km radius; unless of course
they proposed to return the 100 K to Parks Canada, forgo the charitable
donation route and the associated $20 to $30 million tax money and use a
size, design and name that is not deplorably crass.
And as noted in the Globe and Mail article there is a far more suitable
memorial already in the Park; a modest cairn with words to honor their
sacrifice. They surely did not die so that the residents of Dingwall, Cape
North or Ingonish could have a tourist attraction.

I share concern for the economy of northern Cape Breton, respect the voices
from that part of the world more than those from the various supportive
luminaries, and remain appalled at the proposal that this be built in a
national park, the main objectives of which should be to preserve and
protect nature, and educate the public therein.
The most constructive suggestion I have heard so far is that this thing be
built north of the park, where the economy is struggling even more.
