Dear All, July 3, 2015
Further to my e-mail of June 14, when I said that the Bee (Andrena =
crataegi) entry hole was about 1 dm from the rock, subsequent rains have =
flushed the rock bare of soil to reveal that the entry hole is at the =
very edge of the rock; a fair slab of slate. A good choice because soil =
below a large rock or other impermeable material may remain dry even =
when surface soil is saturated. At about 10:00 am today there were five =
grounded near the hole waiting to get warm enough to fly.

The Hieracium pilosella (Mouse-ear Hawkweed) has been in bloom for =
some time but I observed significant feeding activity today for the =
first time (too cold or windy when I l;ooked previously perhaps); two =
species of wild bee loaded with pollen and going for more.

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville
