The moths you saw may have been Bruce Spanworm (Operophtera bruceata) or Wi=
nter moth (O. brumata)... both often called simply 'Winter moth'. They are=
very active this time of year - I saw plenty fluttering about when outside=
last evening. I've had mornings where I've counted well over 100 that had=
 come to our lights. =20
=20
I've also had quite a few Fall Cankerworm (Alsophila pometaria) and Juniper=
 Carpet Moth (Thera juniperata) recently.

   Hi All=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
Last evening we went out for a drive just after dark.=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
The number of moths flying around was quite impressive. =0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
I'm not sure which species but the seem to be active on a mild=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
evening in late November. Good protection from the birds!=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
During the day there was a little hatch of Caddis flies in the=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
little brook by the house. They were a nice dark grey about a size 12=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
fairly large for a Nova Scotia Caddis. I didn't catch any to see the bod=
y color=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
the birds wouldn't worry about that anyway. Letting red maple grow along=
 the=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
brook has certainly increased the population of stream insects.=0A=
   =0A=
  =0A=
   Enjoy November!=0A=
