Hi All, Feb 7, 2016
Remember the Ingonish area was settled before the park was created =
and I think some people were moved so the Keltic Lodge etc could dress =
up the park. North of Ingonish, the park boundary is about 2 miles =
inland but takes a sharp turn east to include Middle Head and then =
almost at once turns west (based on my 1939 map).=20
The "carved out of one of Canada's most pristine wildernesses." is =
just hype along the lines of the movie adds which say "uncut, unchanged, =
better than ever before".
The golf course area was perhaps fairly pristine wilderness 300 =
years ago but most of it was probably someone's cow pasture when the =
lands were seized for the park and none of the golf course is more than =
1/4 mile from a paved road. Also there is an old road, still passable by =
car in the 50's with care, just inland from Middle Head which runs up =
the Clyburn about 2 miles.=20

Great videos, but too short. =20
I was shocked to find we have a golf course in a national park, in =
Cape Breton, "carved out of one of Canada"s most pristine wildernesses" =
...!
From Parks Canada website: =
http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ns/cbreton/activ/golf.aspx
"The Highlands Links Golf Course is one of a kind. Conceived and =
constructed under the watchful eye of world-renowned designer Stanley =
Thompson, it is a classic 18-hole, par 72 links course carved out of one =
of Canada's most pristine wildernesses."

Those of us who are still in the system have been warned to be =
careful. Sending this email is questionable. Maybe things will change =
now, but Canadians need to remain vigilant on how THEIR national parks =
are run, and speak out when they feel the mandate is being ignored. =20

That is what needs to be said, and what troubles me is that this has =
not been invoked as a reason for stepping back from the project.
If someone in authority doesn=E2=80=99t explicitly point out the =
conflict with the mandate, it=E2=80=99ll happen again.

It was a huge departure from the Parks Canada mandate. I was =
beginning to think that we=E2=80=99d completely lost our way... Great =
news!!=20

I was obviously to busy reading and writing about eagles to have =
seen the naturens dialogue today on this. I have been against this from =
the get-go on account of the proposed location plus the size and =
garishness of the whole idea. Thanks for everyone=E2=80=99s comments.

Thanks, Dave, for bringing this up. I have very good news. I heard =

ahead on any Parks Canada land. Hooray! =20

Dear All,
This is a bit removed from Natural History but I have problems =
with any veterans' memorial statue being erected while more than 2000 =
veterans are homeless in Canada; the triumph of image and hypocrisy over =
genuine substance.
