We have two additions to the DoWL from the last few days

Spruce Grouse=20

Northern Shrike

=20

=20

Considering our flying start to the WBL on day 1, our mild December and =
much tamer winter than last year as well as having CSI so well birded =
now I thought for sure we would best our last year=E2=80=99s winter =
total of 202. But birds don=E2=80=99t seem to like it when you make =
assumptions about them. We=E2=80=99ve been stuck at 195 for some time =
and the 202 is looking out of reach. It appears we=E2=80=99ll be lucky =
to achieve our average of 197.

=20

In comparison to last year=E2=80=99s cruel winter, we are down three =
duck species: Redhead, Canvasback and Blue-winged Teal. We picked up =
American Redstart but missed four other warbler species and three =
sparrow species.=20

=20

Unless one shows up soon, it will be the first winter in 20 or more =
years which we didn=E2=80=99t get an Eastern Meadowlark.

=20

However, I feel an epic spring is setting up rather nicely!

MIA Core Species

The following are the species we get every year (they are allowed 1 miss =
in the last 18 years) which we do not have on our WBL yet.

=20

Eastern Meadowlark

=20

Needed 9/10 out 10 Years Species

The following are the non-core species which have made the WBL 9 or 10 =
out of the last 10 winters which we do not have yet.

=20

Blue-winged Teal

Redhead

Gyrfalcon

House Wren

=20

=20

Needed 8 out 10 Years Species

The following are the species which have made the WBL 8 out of the last =
10 winters which we do not have yet.

=20

Carolina Wren

Black-and-white Warbler

Yellow-throated Warbler

=20

=20

Needed 7 out 10 Years Species=20

We=E2=80=99ve cleaned the slate on these ones.

=20

=20

=20

Winter Bird List (WBL) runs from Dec 1 =E2=80=93 to Feb 29

=20

Depth of Winter List (DoWL) is February only
