Hi all:
I took a walk in Miller's Point Peace Park last night. As I was strolling =
through the cemetery four birds flew out three of which were American robin=
s. The fourth was a little smaller and more thin and streamlined. The col=
or was that of a male orange variant scarlet tanager. The wings were not r=
ight for a Baltimore oriole, nor the extent of the color, which was on the =
back and underpart of the bird. If anyone can suggest other possibilities =
I would be very appreciative. It definitely was not a crossbill.
I also heard my first Wilson's snipe winnowing, but as hard as I tried I wa=
s not able to see it.
David Walmark told me about a great horned owl pair with three young at Nor=
thwest. I plan to make a trip out that way on Sunday to hopefully see them=
. It is on a private woodlot.
