James, I've seen declines in my brooks on my property, though have not chec=
ked this Spring. Water levels are so low here too, the lowest I've ever see=
n for this time of year. When there was a clear cut done on my road a few y=
ears ago the effect on the Branch LaHave was striking-- just in the water l=
evels with no silt washing into it as there is still a tree barrier. But th=
e watershed areas for the rivers have almost no protection in Nova Scotia. =
I've talked to Dept. of Environment about it, they can't do much when it's =
privately owned; there are no laws preventing people from basically doing a=
s they please on their own property.
