Thanks Jim and Tony!

Last night, Chimney Swift counts were done at roost chimneys in Bear River,=
 Weymouth, Middleton, McGowan Lake, Wolfville, Truro, New Glasgow, Oxford, =
and Mabou, as well as 10 roost sites in New Brunswick, and across Quebec, O=
ntario, and Manitoba.

So far reports are as follows: 16 in Truro, about 100 in Bear River, and 14=
2 in New Glasgow. The next synchronized roost count will be May 29, then J=
une 2 and June 6. I encourage anyone interested in previous years' reports =
to check out both Jim's listserv postings and the Maritimes SwiftWatch news=
letters, which include annual results from 2011-2015 : http://www.birdscana=
da.org/volunteer/ai/chsw/index.jsp?targetpg=3Dchswnews

Thanks again,

Ally

Last evening was a mandatory date for Maritime SwiftWatch for roost counts =
throughout N.S. & N.B., so there should be a number of other reports showin=
g up soon or earlier. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

MAY 25, 2016, Wednesday - CHIMNEY SWIFTS AT DUSK AT ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENT=
RE IN WOLFVILLE.

Today was mostly sunny, but at 2 p.m. in downtown Wolfville there was a dow=
npour of heavy rain for several minutes.

Sunset time was 8:46 p.m.

Observers tonight were Tony Napoli again and Jim Wolford. We watched from =
8:50 to 9:16 p.m.

Sky was 40% clear (but then further cleared during our vigil), breezy, cool=
, temperature about 15 C.

- at 8:42 p.m., one swift dropped into the RTNC chimney;
- at 8:46, I think one swift exited from the chimney - it flew past us well=
 below the top of the chimney;
- 8:48 p.m. - one more swift in, then 2 + 1 more at 8:49;
- one more in at 8:51, then 20 more dropped in at 8:52;
- 1 more in at 8:53 + 1 more at 8:55;
- 5 more in at 9:02 + 2 more at 9:03;
- 2 more in at 9:04, then 2 + 1 more at 9:05;
- by 9:07, much of the sky had cleared;
- at 9:12, 5 more swifts dropped into the chimney.
- at 9:16, we decided to quit watching.

TONIGHT WE WATCHED A TOTAL OF 45 CHIMNEY SWIFTS DROP INTO OUR CHIMNEY DURIN=
G DUSK ON WED., MAY 25/15.

END OF TONIGHT'S REPORT.
