Hi Jane
Since no one else replied and Sue Abbott is out in the field, I will give you a little bit of a response from the northern NS prospective using some of Sue's notes to those helping out on the beaches. Sue will likely give a more accurate response as the season draws down.
There have been 4 nests from 3 pairs in Pictou co. One failed half way through incubation period and a pair currently on eggs is probably that pair re-nesting with the eggs to hatch in a few days. I checked it this morning and a plover was still on the nest. We are a little unsure of the date that nest was completed with egg laying as were 4 eggs present when found June 14 I think. The nest failed near the end of May I believe. One other nest resulted in 3 young which are now near ready to fly and about 30 days old . The last nest produced 4 young 20 days old today.

Here is hoping the Pictou Co will have 11 new piper recruits but still lots of hurdles ahead as traffic on beaches increases with school out and nicer weather.

In Northern NS there are currently about 14 active pairs up from 12 last year either with young or on nests or with failed nests. A couple have re-nested. Some of the info is a couple weeks old but should give you an idea of this end of the province. Sue indicates that the hatch success looks good in the north but poor in southern areas of the province. So as of June 17.-16 nests initiated in the north, with 3 failed and 3 hatched.

Just looking at Sue's June 9 southern NS report and there were 31 pairs from Martinique to CSI. 28 nests confirmed , , 2 hatched, 11 failed and 15 active nests. No doubt a lot has happened in the past month but gives you a little idea of how things are going. Last year in the south 31 nests had been initiated.
Cheers
Ken.
