Wow, really interesting observations Eric!
Your notes about the nuthatches provide a nice insight on early August =
migration.=20
Your sighting of the top predator is also very apropos, given the =
WWF-Canada report this week which indicates the Bay of Fundy herring =
fishery is in trouble and that fisheries managers are not leaving enough =
fish in the water to meet the needs of whales and seabirds.
Thank you,
John

Subject: [NatureNS] Red-breasted Nuthatches, Brier Island
=20
This morning just after dawn I counted 15 Red-breasted Nuthatches in =
flight over Northern Point, Brier Island. More were in the trees nearby, =
and later I found more scattered about on the island. Arriving spring =
and fall migrants frequently tower over the Point before moving off to =
the NE or dispersing on the island.
=20
This is quite an early record (although not quite the earliest) for this =
irruptive sp=E2=80=8Eecies on Brier Island. It is often the first of the =
fall migrants.=20
