Hi John,=C2=A0

Interesting to see the patterns of the two years compared, I see the spike =
you are talking about compared to last year. I discovered an area on my pro=
perty that is a popular migrant stopover, so I'm curious to see what it loo=
ks like this year. Last year it was busiest between September 17 and 27, wi=
th the most migrant warblers in numbers and species, which corresponds with=
your peak of nocturnal migration last year, interestingly enough. I am inl=
and from Bridgewater, in Lunenburg County, it's not like on the coast for e=
xample, but I am still surprised at the variety I get passing through here.=
Being on a hill and near a river helps I believe.=C2=A0
I'll be interested to see if you get another peak and if I also get an infl=
ux of migrants in the next week to ten days. Migration is one of those amaz=
ing phenomena that I find endlessly fascinating, and it's intriguing to be =
able to observe facets of it right here at my home base. I think it would b=
e amazing if more citizens took an interest and monitored their own home ar=
ea, especially if there is a spot where migrants like to congregate or have=
a stop-over. A "lay-over" if you will! This could also figure into plans t=
o protect habitats. I know there are some major corridors, but it seems the=
re are some micro-corridors as well, and I think it would be good to find o=
ut more about them.

One species I am wondering about is the Blue-headed Vireo, and curious abou=
t their overall numbers compared to last year. I've seen a lot less of them=
 here this season.

thanks and keep up the good work!

79742692WordSection1 {}#yiv0579742692 Hi Carmel and All,I made a graph comp=
aring this year with last year. You can see it here: http://www.johnfkearne=
y.com/ESW/Images/2016vs2015.png. Overall, the trends look similar. There we=
re more calls in mid-August last year, but I believe they started earlier t=
his year. Last night we had a peak that is 7 days earlier than the peak las=
t year. We still might see another peak in the next week of so. If you have=
a question about any particular species, I would be glad to graph that for=
 you.John =C2=A0 =C2=A0From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens=

=C2=A0Hi John, =C2=A0I am wondering what your data is showing regarding th=
is year's migration as opposed to last year? In general trends. Are there m=
ore birds leaving earlier? Or is it about the same? I am not seeing many mi=
grants here yet, and I wonder if those who usually hit my patch are late or=
early?! Or have they changed their patterns in terms of route... Not sure =
why, but there seems to be a change from my limited viewpoint and informati=
on. So I'm curious if you are seeing differences.

week for nocturnal migration at Carleton, Yarmouth County. There was a tota=
l of 1,383 calls at a rate of 198 calls per night. There was an estimated m=
inimum of 1,117 birds. Warbler composition fell to 79% of calls due to the =
influx of Swainson=E2=80=99s Thrushes and Veeries. The most common birds fo=
r the week were Common Yellowthroat (190), American Redstart (160), Magnoli=
a Warbler (152), Northern Parula (125), Black-and-White Warbler (116), Swai=
nson=E2=80=99s Thrush (88), and Black-throated Green Warbler (64). There wa=
s a more than average flight of Wilson=E2=80=99s Warbler, with 37 flight ca=
lls recorded. The peak for the week and for the autumn season thus far was =
the night of 2-3 September when 469 calls were recorded. Rare birds for the=
week included 4 Prairie Warblers, 2 Pine Warblers and 1 Indigo Bunting. A =
sparrow recorded at 10:22 pm on 6 September was a possible Seaside Sparrow.=
